CJ Griffin Discusses Lack of Transparency in Political Donations with Politico
CJ Griffin, partner and director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C., was recently quoted in a Politico article titled, “Big Donors Had Access to Mikie Sherrill at Inaugural Ball. But the Public Won't Have Access to the Donor List.” The article discusses the major donors and attendees of New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill’s inaugural ball, most of whose identities may never be publicly disclosed because the money was donated through a nonprofit.
“I don’t see it as a Governor Sherrill issue,” said CJ Griffin. “It seems to be standard at both the state and federal level, where you have these organizations form to really fund these inaugural activities that seem to be substantial and costly, but then there’s no transparency around it.”
Griffin said it calls for “systemic-type changes” to increase transparency.
