Overview

“The liberties of none are safe unless the liberties of all are protected.” U.S. Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas

The United States Constitution is the foundation of our democracy, providing a broad range of rights and protections to the people, including the freedoms of speech, religion, and privacy; the right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures; the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury; and many other civil liberties. The New Jersey Constitution is even broader, often providing protections greater than what our federal constitution guarantees.

Through impact litigation and appellate advocacy, the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden defends and advances a wide variety of constitutional rights, including tackling some of the biggest issues of our day, such as school segregation, voter disenfranchisement, and attacks upon free speech and the media.
