CJ Griffin, Director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden, was quoted in an Opinion of the Star Ledger Editorial Board, “The Discipline Report for NJ cops is lacking again.” The Opinion discusses the lack of detail contained in police departments’ responses to former New Jersey Attorney General Gurbir Grewal’s Directives, which were designed to provide greater police transparency.

Attorney CJ Griffin, the police transparency expert from Pashman Stein who called the Grewal directive “grossly inadequate” after last year’s inaugural, now says this:

“The directive is another ‘Just Trust Us’ law,” she said. “We’re supposed to just trust that police are properly policing themselves and that the disclosures are full and accurate. Yet, we have ample proof that they are not, in fact, full and accurate. The point of our transparency laws is so that we can review underlying files and data, and not just rely on what the government tells us.”
