CJ Griffin, partner and director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C., was quoted in an NJ Spotlight News article, titled, “Is NJ’s School Ethics Law Being Used to Silence Critics?” The article discusses how the New Jersey’s School Ethics Act is being criticized for potentially silencing board members and discouraging open discussion, with some critics arguing that enforcement of the law has led to board members being warned or shut down for raising concerns, effectively creating a “gag order” on certain public comments.
Examples like this are “alarming,” says attorney CJ Griffin, an open government advocate.
“The very point of having publicly elected school boards is to have representation, to have people that are listening and ensuring that boards are complying with the law,” said Griffin.
