CJ Griffin Quoted in Article on Union County Releasing 10 Years of Disciplinary Records

CJ Griffin, director of the Justice Gary S. Stein Public Interest Center at Pashman Stein Walder Hayden P.C., was quoted in an article in NJ.com article, “N.J. prosecutor will release 10 years of investigators’ disciplinary records.” The article discusses how the Union County Prosecutor’s Office plan to release names goes further than what is required pursuant to the recent directive of New Jersey Attorney General Grewal and notes that the Union County Prosecutor’s office last month successfully appealed to stop the release of internal affairs reports for James Cosgrove, the former Elizabeth Police Director who resigned after using racist and sexist slurs to staffers.?

CJ Griffin represented a former West New York cop-turned-whistleblower who filed the request for Cosgrove’s disciplinary files under the state’s Open Public Records Act. Griffin said the new directive from the state Attorney General wouldn’t have applied to Cosgrove since he resigned and instead called for legislative action to make full disciplinary records public.
