Gannett Satellite Info. Network, LLC v. Twp. of Neptune, 254 N.J. 242 (2023)

2023

CJ Griffin argued before the New Jersey Supreme Court on behalf of amici curiae ACDL-NJ, Libertarians for Transparent Government, Latino Leadership Alliance of New Jersey, and the New Jersey Foundation for Open Government. After Neptune Police Department refused Gannett Satellite Information Network's request for an officer's internal affairs records pursuant to OPRA and the common law, it filed an action in the Law Division seeking the requested records, as well as an award of attorneys’ fees. The Supreme Court granted certification on the issue of attorneys’ fees only. The court declined to adopt fee-shifting in common-law right of access cases.
